Artist's Statement
Each painting documents the dialogue between myself, the paint and the surface. By leaving the door open for creativity and exploration I work within the accidents, possibilities and limitations of the medium. These paintings are a product of an act-and-respond method that permits the work to breathe independently throughout the development of the piece. It is essential to allow the painting to wander freely and entrust in its own internal logic, ultimately producing a finished piece that possesses layer upon layer of meaning.
Mikhail Bakhtin noted in his study of Dostoyevsky's poetics: "Artistic form, correctly understood, does not shape already prepared and found content, but rather permits content to be found for the first time." |
